Community Partners

Limestone District School Board

The Limestone District School Board strives to prepare students to face a changing world as lifelong learners and informed responsible citizens. The Board serves the Townships of Central Frontenac, Addington Highlands, North Frontenac, South Frontenac, Loyalist and Stone Mills, as well as the Town of Greater Napanee, the City of Kingston and the Frontenac Islands.

Limestone Skills Competition
Students from both Elementary and Secondary grades will be competing in a skills competition at St. Lawrence College. A Green Design Challenge has been added to the competition. Students will demonstrate various sustainable actions and products in this competition.

To have students create innovative designs with sustainable targets and goals.

Water Bottle Filling Stations
Water bottle filling stations were installed in selected sites as part of a pilot project. These stations serve as both a water fountain and a refilling station for reusable water bottles.

 

To reduce the amount of single use water bottles used in schools.

LaSalle Secondary School Photovoltaic System
In the summer of 2010 the Limestone Board installed an 8 kilo-watt photovoltaic system on LaSalle Secondary School. This system is connected to the utility grid under the Ontario Power Authority's — Micro FIT program. A monitoring system has been installed in the lobby which displays live data of the system’s performance parameters. Limestone currently has four photovoltaic projects installed and aims to install various renewable energy systems in the future.

To expose students to innovative technologies and information. Generate revenue from the “green” electricity produced.

The Harvesting House
High school students in the Building Construction Internship Program (BCIP) worked alongside a local building company to create The Harvesting House. This project took an existing house model and enhanced it to be much more energy efficient. Now complete the house is an education center for people to view these innovative projects in action.

To introduce innovative technologies to Limestone students and the general public. The house is open to the public (no cost) for the 2010/2011 school year.

ecoSchools Program
An environmental education program for grades K-12 that helps students develop both ecological literacy and environmental practices to become environmentally responsible citizens.

Individual schools strive to achieve a Gold, Silver or Bronze Certification Status, which is reassessed annually.
