The Greater Kingston Chamber of Commerce will be recognized as the "Voice of Business" dedicated to Kingston being Canada's most sustainable city. It is a Member organization delivering high value products, services and opportunities with a focus on advocacy, networking and education.

Community Economic Development New migrants

Work with Kingston Immigration Partnership. The Chamber held a Global Talent/ Local Business Mixer, featuring a forum to assist with the integration of immigrants with employers (skills/job matching).

Labour Market Development Skilled Trades

 

Working with provincial colleagues to deal with the Ontario College of Trades and apprenticeship ratios. We would like to see the ratios relaxed to a 1:1. (Journeyperson to Apprentice) Implement a strategy to aggressively reform ratios to mirror apprenticeship programs in British Columbia and Alberta to make Ontario competitive with jurisdictions that are drawing our talent away from Ontario.

 

 

Ongoing – Current 3:1 ratio will undergo review by the Ontario College of Trades which now regulates the trades and has the ability to relax ratios.

A community event started over a decade ago. PITCH-IN CANADA is now leading a multifaceted approach to litter and overall proper waste management practices.

Confederation Tour Trolley
Confederation Tour Trolley is an annual service that runs from May through Thanksgiving. The trolley schedule is available.

Increase the number of tourists and local residents who use the trolley as a method of discovering Kingston’s attractions.

Pitch IN Kingston
A community-wide clean-up initiative to raise awareness about garbage and litter through public education.

To increase the number of organizations and people involved in the annual Pitch IN event and to decrease the amount of garbage and litter in our community through public education.

Speak Up Kingston Campaign/Speak Up Ontario (2011)
An initiative to increase voter turnout and engage younger voters in the municipal process. To be implemented provincially and federally as required.

To ensure that voter turnout does not fall below 35% for the 2010 Municipal Elections and engage younger voters in the process.
