Viviane Paquin, Chair of the Board of Directors
Viviane Paquin has been a resident of the city of Kingston for over twenty years and holds a Master of Science degree from Queen’s University. She has spent most of her career in the field of environmental sciences. Viviane is currently a member of the senior management team of the Environmental Sciences Group, Royal Military College of Canada where she provides management support to projects involving the assessment and remediation of contaminated sites and where she facilitates research collaborations between government, industry and academia aimed at developing practical and cost effective solutions to environmental problems. Viviane is strongly committed to working with her community to undertake actions that will help move Kingston towards greater cultural, social, economic and environmental sustainability.
Iain Munro, Vice Chair of the Board of Directors
Iain Munro brings to the SK Board many years teaching experience, both in Ontario high schools and for 35 years as a professor of education at Queen’s University, in both the BEd and graduate programs. Over the years he served as associate dean BEd program, chair of Faculty Board, member of the Board of Trustees, four terms as Senator and six years as chair of the Queen’s International Centre. Iain was also a two term governor of the Ontario College of Teachers in charge of university accreditation and as vice-chair of investigations. For many years Iain worked to support Kingston’s vibrant multicultural community as president of the Kingston & District Immigrant Services Board. He holds a commission with the Royal Canadian Navy (retd) and remains involved as a governor of the University Naval Training Division of Canada Association. He is presently on the national executive of the Liberal Party of Canada.
Iain believes in thinking globally but acting locally. He is passionately committed in helping Kingston become Canada’s most sustainable city and in making Kingston a beacon and engine of the greater goal of ensuring Canada becomes the world’s most sustainable nation, hence contributing to a healthier more sustainable planet.
Matt Benson, Member of the Board of Directors
Matt Benson is an environmental and energy lawyer practicing at Cunningham Swan LLP. Matt acts for clients on a wide range of environmental matters, including contaminated lands disputes, brownfield remediation, and regulatory compliance matters. Matt also provides energy clients with deal structuring and risk management advice relating to the development, sale, and acquisition of energy assets. Prior to joining Cunningham Swan, Matt practiced with two leading national law firms in Toronto, Ontario.
Helen Cutts, Member of the Board of Directors
Helen Cutts was born and raised in Kingston. After earning a BA Honours in economics from Queen’s University and an MA in economics from Princeton University, she started her career as a full-time lecturer in the Economics Department at the University of Waterloo. Most of Helen’s career was spent in the federal government. From 2011 to 2016, as a Vice President at the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency, she was responsible for legislative, regulatory and policy elements of environmental assessment. She has also held senior executive positions at the Treasury Board Secretariat, Industry Canada and Finance Canada. Helen is married and has two sons.
Brian M. Dodo, R.G. D, Member of the Board of Directors
Brian is an entrepreneur and founding partner of BmDodo Strategic Design, a local strategic design and marketing company with global reach. Since founding BmDodo Strategic Design in 1998, Brian has most notably directed complete brand design projects for Innovation Park at Queen’s University, Kingston General Hospital, Utilities Kingston, the United Nations and the European Commission.
Brian also started MAPP Africa, which recently hosted the South African Consul General in Kingston. MAPP Africa is a platform focused on showcasing the Music, Art, People and Places (M.A.P.P.) of Africa. It focuses on promoting a positive Africa, creating connections and celebrating cultures.
Brian believes strongly in getting involved and giving back to the community. He maintains active participation with a variety of community organizations including for the Community Foundation for Greater Kingston and the United Way. He currently sits on the Loyalist College Graphic Design Advisory Board and Canada-Africa Chamber of Business.
Brian enjoys spending time with his wife Jen, and daughter Munyaka. In his spare time, Brian plays soccer in the Kingston Men’s Soccer league and squash in the Kingston Intercity League.
Nour Mazloum, Member of the Board of Directors
Nour Mazloum was born and raised in Kuwait as a Canadian citizen and moved to Kingston two years ago. Nour is currently an undergraduate student at Queen’s University studying gender studies through philosophy with a potential to pursue in social and political philosophy in the future. Nour is strongly motivated to committing her time to working with her community to help Kingston move towards being the most sustainable city in Canada.
